On the evening of Thursday, March 23 – well before the tidal wave of tourist season – nearly 400 people breezed through the doors of our small, independent local retailer in downtown Cody, Wyoming.

Sunlight Sports’ 7th Annual Community Night welcomed an impressive turnout – 370 community members, to be exact – and a more impressive final count: the night raised over $22,000 this year, all of which will go toward helping to grow, strengthen and sustain our community.

Community Night goers received a chip (which signified a $10 donation) as soon as they arrived at the event, and then chose between four local non-profits to donate their chip toward.

The Non-Profits present and their donations/chips received at this year’s Community Night were:

DANO:  $870 in chip donations; $170 cash

SCIENCE KIDS: $610 in chip donations; $125 cash

CHS Outdoor Club:  $240 in chip donations; $115 cash

Big Horn Climbers’ Coalition: $230 in chip donations; $55 cash

DANO received $5,000 for new sleeping bags from Nemo to support their summer trips program. The Cody High School Outdoor Club received an additional $2,500. The night also spawned a $15,0000 Grant for the Yellowstone Cutthroat Trout Program, in partnership with Patagonia.

An array of vendors kept Community Night attendees refreshed and full of revelry. On the product side, Fjallraven overjoyed some lucky folks with giveaway prizes from the renowned outdoor brand. Meanwhile, fare-wise, local vendors Cody Coffee, Juniper, and Park County Homebrewers ensured no one went parched throughout the night.

With every Community Night, we are provided with a little snapshot of how wonderful a spot we live in. It reminded us how vital it is to come together to celebrate and preserve this extraordinary place as well as the passionate, involved community of people who choose to call it home.
